If you are like me and my family, I’m sure some of you are nervous or scared during these uncertain times that we’re living in. I don’t want to take any of this lightly, but as I was talking with my team of should we put out any messaging of this virus going around the world, and if so what should we do and what could we do to be a resource. Most importantly, how can we be a bit of inspiration?
So here are a few things that I’ve been thinking about. . . Yes as a small business owner I’m nervous, but three ways that I think we can harness this nervousness, “down time,” or work from home situation.
Let’s figure out something you can work on that you’ve been pushing to the side. It can be a fun personal, professional, or creative project. Personally for me with this downtime of working from home, and some client work going a little quiet is that I’m going to start up my father-preneurship podcast as well as my wife and I have a fun Instagram account that we want to curate and start here in DC.
Passion Projects
I would challenge you to think about what is a fun little side project, side hustle, or something that you want to experiment with. Now is a better time to do it. Plus it gets your mind off of it.
Professional Development
The second one is I know I’m going to continue to beef up and go back to my video editing roots. I’m going to explore taking an online class, going back to my old notes, opening up my Adobe Premier and exploring and messing around with it.
What is a skill that you can work on on your own. Is it an online course? Something you can watch on YouTube and try? Is there something you can learn by reading a book?
Virtual Convenings
Instead of challenging you to go out and about to networking events, which aren’t happening right now, see if you can find virtual networking events. Are there Twitter chats that you can join? Are there Facebook groups that you can join to connect with people? Are there virtual coffee dates or zoom sessions that you can set up where maybe you’re the?
Figure out something that you can join, or that you can host that are virtual networking events, coffee dates, or whatever it might be. Try to meet people, reconnect with people, or stay in touch with colleagues virtually.
Those are three ways you can stay inspirational and upbeat, but also work on yourself. Yes there’s time to be at home and do your chores and do what you need to do, but there’s also some opportunity here to really work on yourself and come out of this on the other side.
I hope you and your family are happy and healthy. We will get through this together. We will be in touch soon.
If there’s anyway we can help, please let us know.
